Curly Black Walnut is called curly because of the wavy figured pattern that appears perpendicular to the growth rings. Except in stump wood, the curly figure seems to be completely random. Like plain Black Walnut, it is a heavy and dense wood with silica in it that can make it difficult to saw and plane. But its texture is even and it can be polished to a high or lustrous sheen. Curly Black Walnut is a rare find, indeed. It's the stuff of heirloom instruments and furniture, thus it is more expensive than plain Black Walnut
Bottom is made of Movingui , also known as Satinwood. It is found primarily in West Africa. The sapwood of movingui ranges from white to straw-colored, while the heartwood is golden-yellow to orangish-brown. The species has a slightly interlocked ribbon-featured grain and is medium to fine in texture. Movingui is moderately resistant to termites and dries with very little degrade. It is nearly identical in hardness to yellow birch, ninety-five percent as hard as red oak, roughly eighty-five percent as hard as hard maple, and about two-thirds as hard as either hickory or pecan. Movingui is relatively easy to cut. The wood has only a slight tendency to split under nailing, but pre-boring is suggested. Glue holds well and takes a good stain and polish. Some of movingui's uses include ceilings, veneers, furniture, and stairworks.
